Go Systems Fly Ti

Go Systems Fly Ti

Go Systems Fly Ti

PRO’s: Extremely light & very compact

CON’s: Relatively expensive way to save a few grammes

VERDICT: There are cheaper & only slightly heavier stoves available. One for the real weight weenies!

OUR RATING ★★★★☆

Weighing in at just 50 grammes without a gas canister the Go Systems Fly Ti is the lightest stove they make.  Designed for the serious weight freak it carries a suprisingly small price tag.  Read on to find out if it’s any good.

Consisting of just a single burner and a flame adjuster the Go Systems Fly Ti is a very simple stove.  There’s no built-in ignition system so you’ll need to use a matches or a lighter to get things under way.  Simply screw it onto a Go Systems Powersource 125 gas cartridge, fold out the serrated pot supports, crank open the valve a little and light it.  Like many other Go Systems stoves this will accept the larger Go Systems Butane/Propane gas canister such as the mid-sized Go Systems Powersource 220 gas cartridge and the larger Go Systems Powersource 445 gas cartridge.

Once it’s lit what’s immediately apparent is that the burner is slightly wider than most other similar camping stoves which means that the heat from the flame is spread over a greater area.  The Go Systems Fly Ti may be small but this  is a powerful little camping cooker – it boasts a 3000 Watt output – so spreading the heat over a larger area helps to prevent food sticking to the bottom of the pan.

Thankfully, with all this power on tap, the flame adjustment is good and it’s possible to maintain a nice steady simmer without too much fiddling around.  However if you cook in a  narrow pot or a large mug you will need to adjust the flame so that it stays on the bottom.  Turning it down will obviously have an impact on the boil time.

The time to boil a litre of water is a fraction under four minutes which is fairly typical for s stove of this output.  Bear in mind that this will increase if the gas cartridge runs down as the pressure starts to drop off.  And like all stoves of this design it is prone to wind if used out in the open but an inexpensive windshield will improves the efficiency massively.

A single Go Systems EN417 cartridge should power the Go Systems Fly Ti for over 2 hours of continuous use which’ll easily see you through a weekend.  Should you need to take a spare with you they are light and small enough to throw in your rucksack.  We managed to fit a canister and the stove into a large mug with room to spare.

Would we buy this stove ?

As we’re not totally obsessed with weight we’d pass it by as there are cheaper but slightly heavier stoves on the market – the Go Systems Scion is one that we can think of – but if you are obsessed with weight it’s an excellent piece of kit for lightweight camping or just making a brew on the hillside.

Go Systems Venture

Go Systems Venture

Go Systems Venture

PRO’s: Lightweight & powerful, excellent flame control

CON’s: None that we can think of!

VERDICT: Superb lightweight, budget stove. Buy it!

OUR RATING ★★★★½

The Go Systems Venture is Go Systems take on the classic lightweight cartridge stove.  Weighing in at just 200 grammes it’s small but does it pack a punch ?

Oh yes!  Size isn’t everything and this little stove is up there with the best of them.  Sporting a 2500 Watt burner it’ll boil a litre of water in 3 minutes and will run for just under two hours on a mixed Butane/Propane Go Systems Powersource 125 gas cartridge.  Like many other Go Systems stoves this will accept the larger Go Systems Butane/Propane gas canister such as the mid-sized Go Systems Powersource 220 gas cartridge and the larger Go Systems Powersource 445 gas cartridge.

Now power is one thing but it’s nothing without control and, thankfully, the Go Systems Venture has loads of control.  The fold out flame adjuster is easy to grip and allows precise adjustment of the flame from a low simmer to a full on boil and anywhere in between.

The stove simply screws onto the cartridge and is lit by pressing the ignition button.  Yep, that’s right, this little stove even includes piezo electric ignition.

One limitation of many lighweight stoves is that they can’t take large pots but the Go Systems Venture, thanks to its fold-out pot supports can.  For small pots keep them folded in, for large pots just fold them out.  The supports are serrated to prevent pot slippage too.

Like many canister mounted stoves, this one is prone to wind and will need to be sheltered behind a rucksack or similar although you could also use a small folding windshield.

Considering its price, what you get for your money (lightweight, folding pot supports, built-in ignition, excellent controllability of the flame) this is a no-brainer.  Buy this stove if you’re after a lightweight stove and you’re on a budget.  Oh, and it even includes a storage bag too.

Highly recommended !

Go Systems Dynasty Trio

Go Systems Dynasty Trio

Go Systems Dynasty Trio

VERDICT: The perfect camping cooker for a small family. Powerful, easy to clean & store, it’s highly recommended. Not that easy to find though.

PRO’s: Double burner and grill combination, folds in to own slim travel case, can operate from a variety of gas cylinders

CON’s: Can be tricky find in store & online

OUR RATING ★★★★★

The Go Systems Dynasty Trio is, if it’s possible, the sexiest looking family camping cooker on the market today.  Boasting a double hob that floats above the base which acts as an easily accessible drip tray it still folds down into a compact package.  In fact, we reckon that this is the slimmest family camping stove that money can buy.

Now with the name ‘Dynasty Trio’ you’re probably expecting a third design feature and you won’t be  disappointed to learn that it’s one of the best grills and toaster that we’ve seen on a camping cooker.  That’s right: it’s the super sim yet it manages to squeeze in two burners and a grill!  Both the grill and each of the hobs have independent ignition and a full range of adjustment from a low flame to a satisfying roar.

Like many other Go Systems camping cookers, this one uses their own Butane cylinders such as the Go Systems Powersource 220 gas canister or the Go Systems Powersource 445 gas canister but it also has the ability to connect to other, larger cylinders via a regulator.  This added flexibility, coupled with a three year warranty (most of their competitors offer only one year), make this an excellent choice in our opinion.  It’s worth noting that it will also work with the smallest Go Systems Powersource 125 gas canister but the runtime will be so short that we don’t recommend this.

Whereas the Coleman Perfectflow Stove and Grill is ideally suited to small families (two adults plus a child) due to it’s single ring, the Go Systems Dynasty Trio is better suited to larger families with more children.

The only thing against this cooker is that it’s not that easy to find online although whilst browsing through our local Mountain Warehouse shop recently that they sell a rebranded version of this stove called the MountainLife Double Burner with Grill.

Whether you can find one online or not, this camping cooker is highly recommended!

Go Systems Dynasty Compact Stove

Go Systems Dynasty Compact Stove

Go Systems Dynasty Compact Stove

VERDICT: Compact & self-contained.  A good alternative to the Campingaz version although, being more widely available, the Campingaz version is cheaper.

PRO’s: Compact, self-contained unit. Includes carry case.  Three year warranty

CON’s: Short runtime, need to carry a spare cylinder. Pricier than the Campingaz equivalent

OUR RATING ★★★★☆

The Go Systems Dynasty Compact stove is Go Systems take on the single burner ‘suitcase’ format camping stove made popular by the Campingaz Camp Bistro.  And if it looks familiar then that’s because it is – the chassis is exactly the same as the Gelert Portable Gas Cooker and the Hi Gear Portable Gas Cooker as well as other non-branded versions so if your budget can’t stretch to the (slightly) more expensive Campingaz version then this could be a good alternative.

So what do you get for your money ?

The stove consists of a steel body which houses a click-in bayonet fitting gas cylinder containing a mix of mostly butane with a small amount of propane as well.  Each Go Systems 220 bayonet gas cartridge contains 220 grammes which is enough fuel for a constant run time of around 1.5 hours – enough for a weekends camping but not much more so ensure that you have a spare cylinder with you.

In use, the stove is simple to light thanks to it’s built-in piezeo-electric ignition system with a powerful flame that’s easy to control from a gentle simmer to a full boil.  The pan supports are serrated for grip and are of a good size.

Like the Campingaz version, this one also comes with a protective carry case but offers a three-year warranty whilst the Campingaz Camp Bistro only offers one year.

In our opinion there’s very little to choose between the two stoves but if you really had to push us, we’d say that despite the extra warranty the Campingaz Camp Bistro is still the better choice.  But if you can’t find one, this is a worthy alternative and offers the advantage of a longer warranty.

Go Systems Sirocco Stove

Go System Sirocco Stove

Go System Sirocco Stove

VERDICT: No-nonsense basic low-profile remote-style stove that puts many of its’ more expensive competitors to shame

PRO’s: Piezo-electric lighter built in, powerfoil, short boil time

CON’s: Stable but extra large pans can tip it over

OUR RATING ★★★★½

The Sirocco Stove from Go Systems is a traditional low-profile stove with a remote reservoir.  The Butane Go Systems Powersource 125 gas cartridge connects to the burner via a substantial looking steel hose and screw-on regulator.  Like many other Go Systems stoves this will accept the larger Go Systems Butane/Propane gas canister such as the mid-sized Go Systems Powersource 220 gas cartridge and the larger Go Systems Powersource 445 gas cartridge

Wide feet help to make this a stable stove although large pots with fixed handles will need to be balanced carefully to ensure that they don’t tip over due to the weight of the handle.  Both the feet and the serrated pan supports fold to save space.

Unlike some of it’s competitors there’s no need to carry a lighter or matches with this stove because it has a built-in piezo ignition system which worked flawlessly during testing.  Pressing the ignition button also starts the flow of gas so lighting it is a one handed job.

This is a powerful stove, boiling a litre of water in just under four minutes.

This is a no-nonsense basic low-profile remote-style stove that puts many of its’ more expensive competitors to shame.  However, if your budget can stretch another ten pounds or so and you are considering perhaps winter camping at some point then we’d recommend taking a look at the Primus Express Spider Remote Stove which has will operate at much lower temperatures.  The design is very similar with the exception of a pre-heater coil which allows it to run when it’s too cold for the gas in the canister to vapourise.

Go Systems Scion Stove

Go System Scion Stove

Go System Scion Stove

VERDICT: Ingenious design takes up very little space but it really packs a punch! Perfect for the weight obsessed!

PRO’s: Very light weight, powerful.

CON’s: Needs matches to light it (but we’re being really picky!)

OUR RATING ★★★★½

With the Scion Go Systems have produced an ingenious little stove aimed squarely at backpackers who don’t want a large stove.  A clever little ball-joint arrangement allows the burner to fold down to save space but whilst it may be lacking on space, it certainly isn’t lacking on power.  The stove boiled a litre of water in just over 3 minutes.

In all other respects the Go Systems Scion is a fairly standard stove with a burner that fits screw on to the Butane Go Systems Powersource 125 gas canister which then offers a stable base.  Like many other Go Systems stoves this will accept the larger Go Systems Butane/Propane gas canister such as the mid-sized Go Systems Powersource 220 gas cartridge and the larger Go Systems Powersource 445 gas cartridge

Three serrated arms, each about 50 mm long, flip out to provide the pan supports.  Beneath this is a wire lever that flips out which allows the flame to be controlled.  As with most ‘burner on top’ designs there is no inbuilt ignition system so you’ll need to carry a lighter or matches.

If you’re in the market for a small, lightweight stove for backpacking then you’ll not go far wrong with this one.
